Climate Zones and Biomes

Worlds of the Arcane Realm have specific climates and biomes. As such as it known as the Kaffen Climate-Biome System which is based on the real life Köppen system.

Tropical-These are very warm climates found in the tropics that experience high quantities of precipitation.

Wet: No dry season

  • Tropical Rainforest
  • Tropical  Swamp
  • Mangrove Forest

Monsoon: Short dry season;heavy rain other months

  • Tropical Rainforest
  • Mangroves
  • Cloud forest

Dry: Winter is dry season

  • Tropical Savannah

Dry-These are climates that experience little precipitation during most of the year.

Arid: Only support sparse animal and plant life

  • Desert (Hot or Cold)

Semiarid: Transition climate between dry and wetter places

  • Steppe (Hot or Cold)
  • Savannah

Polar-These climates have very cold winters and summers, with no real summer season.

Tundra: No true summer; permafrost in soil

Ice Cap: Perennial Ice

Temperate-In these climates, summer temperatures are warm and winters are cool or cold.

Humid Subtropical: Occasional frost with no dry season, hot summer

  • Temperate Forest
  • Mangroves
  • Swamp
  • Temperate Rainforest

Coastal: Mild winter with no dry season, cool summer

  • Temperate forest
  • Mangroves

Continental: Cold winter, warm or cool summer

  • Temperate forest
  • Prairie

Subarctic: Very cold and dry winter, cool summer

  • Boreal  forest

Highland-These are climates that are strongly influenced by the effects of altitude.  As a result, the climate of such locations is rather different from places with low elevations at similar latitudes.

  • Montane Grassland
  • Alpine Tundra
  • Cloud forest
